F-12 Learn to Play Apples to Apples: A Game of Crazy Comparisons
Are you a fan of this fantastic family card game? Join us in playing this “Mensa Select” “Party Game Of The Year.” It takes only a minute to learn and is recommended for ages 9 and up. Limit 40 participants.
F-13 Exploring Medieval Armor and Garb
Take a step back into the Middle Ages. Discover similarities between their clothes and what we wear. Learn about the four levels of armor and how it was made. Find out what changed hand to hand combat on the battlefield. Hold a real gauntlet and feel the weight of a shield. All ages welcome.
F-14 SMART Teams Molecular Modeling Workshop for Homeschoolers Ages 10 and Up and Parents
Hear about opportunities for student teams of three or more to participate in the MSOE SMART Teams program and sample some of the structured learning activities included in this program and the related curricular materials available for home use. Variations of the SMART Teams program exist for those within and outside the Milwaukee area. For ages 10 and up and parents. Also see D-3.
F-15 Let’s Fly Paper Airplanes
Learn to make and fly several different styles of paper airplanes. Experiment with changes in design and check on how each one affects the airplane’s flight. Have fun flying your planes along with those of other young aviators. Limit 40 youth. Also C-20.
A-16 Music and Movement - Ages 2-6
Learn songs and chants, movement, and instrument activities that encourage musical development and interaction at this important stage of childhood. Session lasts 30 minutes; visit Connections afterward. Limit 20 children.
A-17 Make Bendy Critters
Use pipe cleaners, wool fleece, yarn and embroidery floss to create whimsical animals that make great play companions and gifts. Come twist, wrap, and wonder at the character you create. Appropriate for dexterous 7 year olds and up. Limit 10 youth. Also B-22.
A-18 Join a Treasure Hunt by Letterboxing
Meet the Frog-A-Nobies and learn about a family-friendly treasure hunt that flexes your brain and meshes art with nature. Bring a small notebook or index cards, an ink pad or washable markers, and a stamp or your thumb. Letterboxes will be hidden around the conference and nearby parks. Pick up your clue sheet and meet other Letterboxers for stamp exchanges. Note: Children must be supervised at all times during the conference. This is a family activity.
A-19 Chess & Checkers Challenge
Bring your game boards and pieces, meet other homeschoolers, and make new friends while playing these old favorites just for fun. Or join the friendly tournament held during the workshop. No presentation or instruction. All ages and skill levels welcome.
B-16 Birds of Prey Basics
Come and learn about birds of prey, their anatomy and behaviors and their role in our environment. Meet some one or two live representatives of the bird species.
B-17 Hands-On Physics: Focus on Forces
Participate in making a sheet of paper by hand. Discuss the forces involved. Play an interactive game to explore forces more. Learn about Newton’s 3 laws. Explore how forces affect motion. Discuss connections between forces, energy and work. Aimed at 12-14 year olds, but all ages welcome. Presenter is from the Paper Discovery Center in Appleton. Limit 50 youth.
B-18 Where Did You Go? What Did You See? Share Your Travel Stories
Tell some stories about your travels to an appreciative audience and enjoy hearing about others’ adventures, like a special time with grandparents or a camping trip. Or have you visited a foreign country? Bring pictures and souvenirs and tell your story.
B-19 Introduction to Taekwondo, a Korean Martial Art
Develop core strength and become more fit through taekwondo. Learn how to warm up and do basic kicks and bag work. Also learn taekwondo terminology and a few Korean words. Kicks develop core strength and are very vigorous, but you don’t have to be in great shape to learn them. Wear loose, comfortable clothes and plan to be barefoot. For ages 8 and up, including adults. Limit 20. Also D-18.
B-20 Learning to Quilt
Learn basic hand sewing quilting techniques to create a small wall hanging to take home and enjoy. Ages 10 and up. Limit 20 youth. Please bring $5.00 to cover the cost of materials.
B-21 Fun and Games For Ages 6 and Under
Join a group of homeschoolers ages 6 and under to learn and play a variety of easy-to-learn, fun-to-play movement and thinking games.

C-16 Homeschoolers Got Talent: An Open Mic for All Ages
Share your talents with an appreciative audience of homeschoolers. Spend 3-5 minutes talking about a special interest, singing, reciting poetry, playing a musical instrument, etc. Participants must contact Anna Syvertsen at
C-17 Gravity-Powered Cars
Design and build a model car, powered by gravity as it races down a ramp and across the floor. Which team’s car can travel the farthest? Share ideas and have fun learning science together. This is a more detailed project that uses the theory from B-1. Suggested ages 10 and up. Limited to 15 youth. Also D-17.
C-18 Make Artists’ Trading Cards (ATC) and Exchange Them
Connect and share your art with others! Craft ATCs, works of art sized 2.5” by 3.5” that you may trade with others. You may also bring finished cards to exchange. We will also make “Jam” cards. For artists of all ages; young artists must come with a helper.
C-19 Learn to Polish Rocks by Hand
Do you like rocks, minerals, fossils, and the science of geology? Pick up interesting rocks? Have a rock collection? Learn to polish rocks using water and various grades of sand paper, and polish one to take home. Everyone from avid collectors to people new at the discovery of rocks welcome. For ages 6 and up. Limit 15. Also D-19.

C-21 Create Your Own Mosaics
Make one or more simple or complex mosaics by creating a design or picture and filling it in with dried beans and grains glued onto cardboard. Limited to 25 youth.
C-22 Hair Braiding Techniques for Beginners
Learn three-strand braid, French Braid, Dutch Braid, and (time permitting) how to make stylish buns. Bring a partner and practice on their shoulder-length or longer hair. Good for mothers and daughters. Bring a wide tooth comb, a rat-tail comb, a brush, and hair ties. Suggested for ages 8 and up. Limit 40 participants (20 pairs).
D-15 Handchimes: Exploring the Elements of Music and Music Literacy
Participants will play a variety of music together using handchimes, and discover how these instruments (in the nature of English handbells) can become tools for learning about music and music literacy. For ages 7 and up.

Join a group of homeschoolers ages 7 and over to learn and play a variety of easy-to-learn, fun-to-play movement and thinking games.
